Teaching Philosophy:

Music is a powerful form of expression—one that requires vulnerability, emotion, and technical skill. My journey began as both a violinist and mariachi singer, shaped by a lesson from my high school mariachi teacher who once said, “A good mariachi plays very well or sings very well, but someone who can do both very well is rare.” That message inspired me to pursue degrees in both violin and voice and continues to guide my work as a performer and educator.

I believe every student’s musical path is unique. Teaching is not one-size-fits-all; it requires research-based methods, flexibility, and thoughtful adaptation to each student’s learning style and goals. Whether a student is studying classical music, mariachi, or other Latin genres, I select repertoire that challenges them while remaining achievable, always supporting their growth and confidence.

I strive to create a safe, encouraging learning environment where students feel heard, develop self-efficacy, and grow both as musicians and individuals. -Alicia Rubio
