Music Lessons
Music is a powerful expression where the performer is vulnerable, sharing emotion and technical skill with the audience. My journey began as a violinist and mariachi singer. A quote from my high school mariachi teacher stuck with me: “A good mariachi plays very well or sings very well, but to find someone that can do both very well is rare.” That inspired me to pursue degrees in violin and voice, shaping my belief that every student’s path is unique and requires tailored instruction. Teaching isn’t one-size-fits-all; teachers must use research-based practices and adapt their methods to each student’s learning style and goals, whether that is classical or mariachi music. Repertoire selection should challenge students while staying within reach, always keeping their personal growth in mind. Ultimately, I strive to create a safe, encouraging space where students feel heard, build self-efficacy, grow as musicians, and become confident individuals. -Alicia Rubio
